Why wear a fabric face mask?
A number of states are now requiring everyone to wear a face covering in public, including at grocery stores and other essential businesses. As states across the country re-open, we should expect face masks to be required in nearly every setting. Here are good reasons to wear a face mask: It helps you to limit the spreading of droplets by breathing, sneezing or coughing. It is an extremely visual reminder that everyone needs to keep to a safe social distance. It reminds you not to touch your own face. It reminds everyone that we are all at risk and you are taking personal responsibility for your health and the health of others.
Fabric face masks are better than disposable masks
Fabric face masks can be washed and re-used. Paper masks are intended for a single use and then must be discarded. All of the disposable masks will end up in landfills, creating a huge environmental impact. We love that fabric face masks can be made in a variety of colors and patterns. They can express your interests, like cats, dogs, chilies, Route 66, or your favorite sport. They can be color coordinated to your shirt!
Tips for wearing and caring for your fabric face mask
Launder your fabric face masks before using the first time.
You should wear a mask whenever you go out in public and will be around other people. Once you have returned home, remove the mask and put it in the laundry.
To put on your mask, tie the top tie first, bringing the ties over your ears and around the back of your head. Pull the mask at the top and bottom to stretch from the bridge of your nose to under your chin. Then tie the bottom tie around the back of your neck.
Masks may be washed with other laundry using your normal amount of laundry detergent. To keep ties from getting tangled, use a mesh laundry bag. If you don’t have one, you can wash them inside a nylon stocking or sock.
